The Gathering Masterclasses
Want to learn tips from Mike Peters and The Alarm At The Gathering 18, Mike Peters taught a large group of Gatherers some of the guitar playing techniques employed by himself and The Alarm. A group of over 30 musicians then crammed onto stage to recreate Mike Peters teaching Bono how to play Knockin’ on Heavens Door, many of them using Mikes guitars from various periods of The Alarm. At The Gathering 19, Mike Peters and James Stevenson taught an even larger group of Gatherers the Neil Young (and Alarm) classic, ‘Rockin’ In The Free World’, once again, using their own instruments and a selections on Mike’s own guitars. The Masterclasses are your chance to learn directly from Mike Peters and gain some insight into The Alarm’s guitar technique along the way.

This year the guitar masterclass will feature the song ‘One Guitar’. Although not an alarm song, the band were the first to record the song by the amazing Willie Nile, and since it’s first outing (just like Rockin in the Free World) its been a firm favourite with the fans. The masterclass will run from 11am-12midday approx. Doors at 10am. Bring your guitar and learn to play the song Mike Peters style! The event will also feature an opportunity to see some of Mike’s guitars that have featured in iconic moments in the 30 years of The Alarm and Mike Peters, including some guitars that aren’t famous yet…like the one stringed bass that features in the film, Vinyl. This year the event will also feature some of Mikes stage costumes through the years such as the military jacket worn in The Deceiver video!
